50 years had passed since the International Council of Amateur Dancers – later renamed International DanceSport Federation (IDSF) – was founded at the Wiesbaden home of German Champion Otto Teipel! When IDSF held its 2007 Congress in Barcelona, Spain, it was the International Olympic Committee Honorary President for Life, HE Juan Antonio Samaranch, who delivered the anniversary address.
“The IDSF is an organisation which has reached its maturity. This requires sometimes changes. Criteria need to be updated, and the challenges imposed by an increasing media society must be accepted,” Samaranch told the delegates. Advice which the latter acted upon almost immediately! The IDSF General Meeting on 10 June 2007 authorised the Presidium to prepare for a restructure of IDSF over the coming years.
